December Daily 2015 Week 3

Moving right along with my December Daily album.

DEC 13

DEC 14
I had my Christmas cards made at this year.  I'm happy with the way they turned out.  My brother took this photo of our family during Thanksgiving.

I tucked the little crafts that Noel gave the kids into the pockets after they completed them.

DEC 15
The kids received letters from Santa in the mail today.  They were postmarked from the North Pole.

Poor Ethen got a little bad news in his letter.  I wasn't sure how he was going to react to it.  He read it intently, and then had a little smile when he got finished.  Thankfully he didn't burst into tears.  Poor Santa just can't give everyone all of the things they want for Christmas.

So much hype about the movie.  I was so excited!  I am a huge fan.  Reality is that I was crushed and in a bad mood for days after I saw it.  I'm totally angry at JJ for ruining my Star Wars world.

December Daily 2015 Week 2

Here are my layouts for December 6-12:

Despite the warm temperatures, we had fog nearly every morning this week.  To mix it up, I trimmed a column of 2x2 page protectors and embellished it with tags for a small page.
The jingle sticker and snowflakes are from Heidi Swapps O What Fun collection.  I had the music washi tape already in my collection (not sure who the manufacturer is).
DEC 10
The Relief Society Dinner photos were really dark, warm, and gritty.  Converting them to black and white eliminates all of the distractions in the photo.
DEC 11
Turns out the kids don't like coconut, but they thanked Noel for the sweet treat anyway.
DEC 12
Houston Symphony puts on a Family Series that has concerts on Saturday mornings that only last an hour.  Kids are encouraged to dress up and sing along.  Ethen had so much fun at the Halloween one wearing his Harry Potter costume, that he decided to wear it again.

Here is a fun video clip of us singing to the orchestra.  Maya got a compliment on how well she sings from the lady in front of her. ;)  We all felt like Elsa singing with a full orchestra (except maybe Dad, who would if he would just "Let It Go..."

December Daily 2015 Week 1

I'm getting started on my December Daily album for 2015.  This has been a tradition for me since 2009.  I am using Bella Blvd products this year, from their Christmas Cheer and Christmas Countdown collections.  I chose a pink polka dot Project Life 6x8 album from Becky Higgins that I picked up at Michaels to put it in this year.

Here's a look at my title page.  I sewed some colorful sequins in the pocket.

Noel arrived as usual on December 1st.  This time she had a request for the kids to fill a box with old toys to donate.  It was a hard thing for them to part with their toys, but they did manage to put a few things in the box.

Once again I made my own Lego advent calendar.  This year I divided the Lego Winter Toy Shop into 24 groups.  I got some milk carton boxes from Michaels and decorated them with bows from Recollections and numbers from Heidi Swapp's Oh What Fun collection.

Noel took sELFies with our devices.  The kids were mystified how she was able to get one on the old iPad that doesn't have a camera.  She sure is sneaky!  The cute elf stickers came from Michaels.

I got the tree set up today, and the kids decorated it after they got home from school.  I'm currently also working on an ornament mini album that documents where each ornament came from.  This has been a project of mine for years now.  I'm hoping to get it up-to-date this year.

The "glisten" word came from Heidi Swapp's Oh What Fun collection currently in Joann Stores.

Cancun 2014 Layouts

Last Thanksgiving we were here.  *sigh*
I plan on making a 6x8 mini album for our trip to Cancun, but I also wanted to include the pictures into our yearly family digital album.  Here are the layouts for that:

Maya's Baptism Album

I've finally completed the mini album featuring photos from Maya's baptism.  I knew I wanted to used an assortment of Maggie Holmes' collections to embellish this album, including "Open Book" and some "Flea Market."  I also used a lot of Crate Paper's "Confetti" and "Craft Market" collections, which all blend very well.

I also knew I wanted this to be a 6x8 album.  I went back and forth between the pink Simple Stories Snap Binder and the Becky Higgins Gold Album that I ultimately chose.

I stumbled upon this glittered chipboard 8 at the $1 Hot Spot in Target of all places.  It was perfect for the title page.  I took the page protectors and chipboard divider pages from the Simple Stories Snap album and used them, so grateful for the uniform style that fits the 2-ring binder.  The pink is just extra wide washi tape that I had leftover from the stripes I put up in Maya's room awhile back.

For the tag I used my typewriter that I purchased from an antique sale last year -- only to discover it doesn't have an "!" key.  TRIVIA: Did you know that the exclamation point key was only added to keyboards after 1970?  I had to do the old apostrophe and period trick.

"This is what it's all about" is a rub on with a vellum heart.

The glare on the page protectors was hard to overcome, but I didn't want to take everything out of the pockets to photograph them.

Lots of my embellishments are on top of the page protector just to give it a more layered look, and to keep it laying flat on the page.

I kept a lot of this album transparent with just a few embellishments added to the pockets.  I also stitched directly on the page to close the pocket or add tags.

One thing I loved about using Maggie Holmes' products is that many of her products are already premade and textured for you.  In this case, all I did was add the star to the tag and rotate the happy diecut.

Another example of Maggie's premade embellishments: the Love banner and the rosette.

Putting this album together was so much fun!  Each picture was so beautiful and soft.  I loved the way it turned out!

She really just bounced around from place to place, and I followed her, camera ready.  This was my first real photo shoot, and I was more than pleased with the results.  I didn't want my embellishments to detract away from the photos.

I included her baptism invitation in the album as well.  Just layered the front and back together.

The gold transparencies are from Heidi Swapp, not Maggie Holmes.

I'm sad that I didn't capture a picture of her playing the violin at the baptism.  I was busy on the piano, but she did a wonderful job.

For Maya's birthday banner I got some inspiration from Anthropologie's je 'taime banner.  They were selling it for $48, but it's now out of stock.   Seriously, what a racket.  Who buys this overpriced stuff?  I made mine for about $4.

First I cut out her name using my Silhouette Portrait.  I used their adhesive gold vinyl.  Next I just selected some sheets of cardstock and cut them into a banner shape.  Strung it on some gold curling ribbon, and voila!  I was going to make some tassels out of the same gold ribbon, but to make things easier, I just took some of them off a Oh Joy! Happy Banner from Target that I already had, and it saved me a bit of time.  It still hangs in her room.  It was so beautiful I couldn't bear to throw it away.

After a few pinterest fails, I finally got the CTR cookies to look good.  I ordered the shield-shaped cookie cutter from Amazon.  Niccole (the best cupcake maker in the world) helped me with the dress frosting and arrangement, and it turned out super sweet!

I added a list of people who attended, and the last page of the album is a copy of the program.

This album truly fills my heart with joy.  It will definitely be one of my treasured keepsakes.
