Vinyl Projects

I've been wanting to make these buckets for 3 years, but never could fit them in a suitcase to take back to my home. Now, I finally got them made. Buckets are from Target and the vinyl was cut by my sis-in-law. Very excited to put red, white, and blue drinks in these for the 4th.

This FHE board evolved. I bought it orignally from Then I painted it red and added a vinyl temple that I made myself. I designed the magnets too and had them printed by shutterfly. Now all we need is an evening at home...

I love/hate McDonalds

Back in 2009 I blogged about McDonalds.  It was my 2nd week of living overseas.  I was desperate for a little bit of home.  I mentioned how much I hate McDonalds.  The food is so gross and I avoided it at all costs.

Fast forward to today.  I went there voluntarily.  By myself.  No, the kids weren't in the car asking for it.  Me.  I wanted it.  True, all I really wanted was a fountain Coca~Cola, but while I was in the drive thru I opted for some chocolate chip cookies also.  No more do they come in a box with tiny dry cookies with a picture of Ronald on the cover.  No, today I received fresh, hot, soft, chocolate chip cookies.  At McDonalds!?

Dave calls it Brand Name Marketing at its finest.  All I know is that I've been a lot of remote places, and there are three things you can always count on 1.)  Starbucks  2.) 7-Eleven  3.) McDonalds.

In Switzerland (where a Big Mac was insanely expensive) I'd usually order in person to try and get someone who spoke English.  One day I was really brave and ordered in French in the drive-thru.  Granted, they got my order wrong, but it was close ;)

In Egypt (where a Big Mac was insanely cheap) I'd have my driver take me and the kids there.  I never did try the McArabia (grilled kofta pita sandwich), but Dave did.

In Kuala Lumpur we celebrated Chinese New Year with the CNY McFizz.  (Orange Juice mixed with Sprite).

At McDs in Cairo with Endicotts.  Love how the hat is over the top of the hijabs.
In Tokyo, we were disappointed that the nuggets still had the chicken skin underneath that fried layer.  Nasty.

As much as I abhor McDonalds, I really do admire them and thank them for being in every country I've ever been in.  Even if I don't always eat there, and I do still try to avoid it -- Hats off to you, McDonalds, today your cookies were just what I needed.

Memorial Day

We have enjoyed the time we've spent with family this past month. We got to attend the Air Show in Ogden with Parkinsons and Petersons. The kids loved the jets. The show was spectacular and coming back to the USA and hearing Neil Diamond's "Coming to America" and Celine Dion's "God Bless America" choked me up. Dave summed it up best when he said it [the roar of the jet engine] was the sound of freedom.

I, however, forgot to pack sensible shoes and walked miles in high heels. Not smart.

Memorial Day was low-key with just a family bbq and cousins playing. But that is what we always long for when we are far away.

I realize I am behind on my digital scrapbooking, but unfortunately I forgot to upload all my pix off my computer before it got put on the slow boat from China. I hope it survives it's 9 weeks at sea.

So, the April pages are delayed for at least until July, but in the meantime I'm having fun with paper and scissors.

New Car New Home New Life

When repatriating, the list of to-dos is mighty long (and expensive).

New cell phone
New car
New house
New 110-volt appliances (from hair dryer to blender to washer)
New schools
New address

It's almost like starting over or at least getting married.  I'm pretty sure that changing jobs, moving to a new country, buying a car, and buying a home are among the top ten stresses of life.  At least I'm not pregnant.  :)

But we are settling in.  One by one getting the things we want to make our lives a little easier.  I opted for the Chrysler 300.

Dave still hasn't made a decision.  (To me choosing between a Dodge Challenger and a Toyota Corolla is a no-brainer.)

But I did make a whirlwind weekend trip to Houston and we bought a home.  It is in the Cinco Ranch area of Katy, TX.  I am very excited to begin our American lives anew here.

***I'll take better pictures once we make it our own (minus the realtor in the picture).
