Love this kid.

So, I'm finally getting around to posting some Halloween pictures. My life has been a little crazy since then. Dave is currently in Cairo starting his new job and looking for a house. I am in Utah with family. Not having our computer has put me back a little, but I'm still going to try and stay current before I get too far behind.

Au revoir, Switzerland.

It hasn't been long enough, but we enjoyed our time living in Geneva. I am spending the holidays in Utah with family and Dave is on a plane to Cairo as I type. On to the next adventure...

President Obama in Genthod

EDIT: The Presidents weren't actually here, I guess. Sent some of their cronies instead.

President Obama and the Iranian President are having their peace talks here in our little town of Genthod. They canceled Maya's school as a "measure of security." I couldn't figure out who was coming, but here is a clip from NBC Nightly News that confirms who is in the building next to Maya's preschool.

I knew it had to be someone important. When I picked up Maya from school on Monday, there were men all around, even in the preschool, checking things out.

We had a nice weekend in Paris. We spent 2 days at Disneyland and 2 days in the city. We set the bar pretty high this year for birthdays. Maya has been talking about going to see Mickey again. I told her only when Ethen is old enough to ride.

Dave and I decided we need to see Paris sometime kid-free. Their subway system isn't stroller-friendly at all. We found everyone there to be very friendly and I got lots of offers to help with the strollers. Either the Parisien attitude towards Americans is false, or we just ran into friendly tourists wherever we went.

More pictures from Disney and Maya's birthday party to come...

Weed Bouquet

I taught the lesson in Relief Society on Friendship last Sunday. I was struck by this quote. Never thought of friendship in this light....

"Friendship is one of the grand fundamental principles of ‘Mormonism’; [it is designed] to revolutionize and civilize the world, and cause wars and contentions to cease and men to become friends and brothers. … it unites the human family with its happy influence. That friendship which intelligent beings would accept as sincere must arise from love, and that love grow out of virtue, which is as much a part of religion as light is a part of Jehovah. Hence the saying of Jesus, ‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’ [John 15:13.] -- Joseph Smith

We went around the room and introduced ourselves. There were sisters there from the Phillipines, Mongolia, Spain, Zimbabwe, Korea, Jamaica, England, France, and the US. Truly the gospel of Jesus Christ unites.

So I'm kind of in a creative slump lately. Not much to look at, but here are a couple pages.

It's a Wonder...A 7th Wonder

Well, the announcement has been made public and it's official.

Growing up I always thought it would be cool to visit the Seven Wonders of the World. Today, it's hard to define what those wonders are because there are wonders of the natural world, the modern world, the underwater world, the industrial world... You get the picture.

I'm talking about the seven wonders of the ancient world. The original seven wonders. Can you name them? I couldn't. But I got the one that counts.

The pyramids at Giza.

Never in my life would I have thought that I'd be LIVING in the SHADOW of one of the wonders, much less, THE Wonder.

Yup, we're moving to Cairo, Egypt. Come October I'm going to have to shelf French (all two words I know) and pull out the Arabic. I don't even know one word. Anyone?? Anyone??

So, you have approximately one month to come visit us in Switzerland, and then it'll have to be a camel ride for you. Seriously, come visit us before it's too late. I'm dying for more company. Somehow I think our visitors are going to taper off once we cross the Med.

My mom told me when I got married I could never move east of the Mississippi River. Well, I lived right on the east bank, one mile away. Now I live on the Rhone River. Why not the Nile?

Caught up!

Yay, I am currently caught up scrapbooking Maya and Ethen's albums. It's a good feeling; we'll see how long it lasts.
