The Dreaded PT

I went to the bookstore in Utah to find a potty training book. I don't even know how to approach this, so I needed guidance. I balked at one called, "How to Potty Train in One Day." They really sell copies of that? I wasn't so naiive to think that was an option, and opted for the "Everything About Potty Training Book."

So, today was the day I finally decided I'd get serious with Maya. She has gone a couple of times when it was obvious she had to go, and I'd whisk her away and set her down.

But today I didn't put a diaper on, and told her that she was going to wear her new Dora panties. So, I showed her how to pull them on and off and then we started painting. She got this weird look on her face and ran to the bathroom and went! What? The first time? This can't be how it is supposed to work. Where are all the puddles I'm supposed to clean up?

That did come later, but not quite how I'd expect it to. I made the mistake of letting her watch tv, and of course she was too involved to go to the bathroom, so she did go a couple of times, but no big deal. Just needed to change the underwear.

During the course of the day she went 4 or 5 times and filled up her whole sticker chart! (Now what am I supposed to use for incentive??)

So, when Daddy got home, he was transforming her crib into a day bed so she can crawl out by herself. She snuck away, he heard a flush, and she came back carrying her panties because she couldn't get them back on. Wow, this is really happening! She doesn't even need me to prompt her to go!

So, bedtime comes. I tell her to go before I put a diaper on (I'm not so stupid as to believe she won't wet the bed tonight) and she does!

So I am a believer. It really can happen in one day!

Maybe before I boast, I'll see what tomorrow brings...

Maya is old enough, that she may skip the multiple puddles everyday. And she is a girl which I think helps too. Sometimes potty training can progress well and then there can be times of setback as the child is readjusting to needing to go potty in different situations (like while watching the tv, etc). So glad to hear that you had a successful first day!

My girls skipped the puddles and accidents (they were all about the cute unders) ... the boy - however...

Fun times in the Keddington house! :)

We had tons and tons of puddles....so I love hearing that you may not go through that!! Way to go!! (We all know she is amazingly bright...it might have something to do with it. :))
