Mardi Gras in Galveston

I had fun creating my own patterned paper and glass buttons on this layout.

Some fun decorated houses that we saw around town.

100th day and other stuff

I can't believe how much Maya looks like my mother when you give her a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.  Don't take it as insult mom -- that's she's trying to look 100 years old -- you are beautiful! ;)

I also got around to scrapbooking a picture of Ethen from last summer.

January Layouts

So I'm finally getting around to deciding what my 2013 layouts are going to look like.  I'm still sticking with the format I've used the last 3 years -- it's working so well for me.  I am not a project lifer (gasp!), but I do enjoy many of the products they put out, and I'm incorporating many into my layouts.  For me, the whole Project Life thing is too complicated -- too busy (though it boasts simplicity).

Anyhoo, I'm loving the Studio Calico Project Life Kits that debuted this year.  I love the colors, the elements, and the inspiration.  So I'm using it kind of as a guide to what I'm going to produce this year as my family's 2013 scrapbook.  Enjoy!

Da-da Duuuh DA, da-da-da DA duh, da-da-da DA duh, da da da-duh

Today we had Ethen's 4th birthday party.  I made this invitation with an image I found online.  I love that there are so many fun ideas on the internet.  I had way too much fun planning this Lego Star Wars Party.

I gave each child a mask and lightsaber that I made out of pool noodles cut in half and wrapped with duct tape.  Our friend, Merv, was quite the Jedi today.

This birthday boy had a permanent smile all day long.

The food was easy to prepare and fun to create.

I found these fun cake pops online at the Pop Cakery on Etsy.  She did a fabulous job!  Highly recommended.

Fondant cakes out there were super pricey, so I opted to print an image on a cake.  LOVE the way it turned out for a fraction of the cost.  I just stuck Legos on top and used glowsticks as lightsaber candles.

Lastly we hit a pinata.  That swing did it in.  We had to put it back together so the rest of the kids could have a turn.

One happy birthday boy!

And birthday boy's sister!

Watch out...

Watch out, she's got her camera out.

So I am now finished with my photography course.  I can definitely see an improvement in my photos, but I also am getting more confident shooting in manual.  The above picture was taken in the evening, when the light was bad and I was able to capture the right balance with my new skills!  Yay me!

No one is immune from me now ...

And I am loving my new 50mm f/1.8 lens.  That is if I can get the focus on your eyes instead of your nose hair!  I'll keep practicing...
