Our house...

I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures of our house. So far living out here (30 min from the city) has it's pros and cons. We are glad that we are out of the pollution cloud that hangs over the city. Some days it is really disgusting. We're also glad that it's quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. But, the cons are that we are away from the ward family and, consequently, miss out on some social aspects. We have to drive pretty far to get to any shopping -- the only thing linking us to it is the dangerous Ring Road. Although, we love that we have a big yard for the kids to play in. So I guess we give and take.

I'll see if I can get out and take some pictures of our neighborhood. It really is quite interesting to look at.

Al-Azhar Park

I know I already blogged about this day, but I'm finally getting around to getting it scrapbooked. Here is the finished page.

AV Mode

So I've been wanting to learn how to use my camera. I purchased an e-book called "Get Me Off Auto." I have a long way to go, but I was particularly pleased with these shots. I really only got these shots by luck, and need a lot more tutoring. But I am convinced that lighting is crucial to a good shot.

Two gorgeous boys. Aren't I a lucky woman?

Giza Motocross

Motocross in front of the pyramids today and I am missing it! This video shows some great shots of Cairo, though, and the city markets.

Cousins

These boys are so cute! I hope that as they grow older that they can also grow to be great friends.

Khan el-Khalili

I know I mentioned the Khan in a previous post, but I now have better pictures. I went shopping here with some friends. I came home with an alabaster jewelry box for Maya, a purse that was probably made in China, 5 necklaces, a papyrus print, glass pyramids, and lots of stories to tell. I was so grateful to the Cummings kids who watched my kids so I could go shopping with the girls.

Hot

So yesterday was HOT. Weather.com reported a high in Cairo of 109 degrees. We are still trying get over jet lag. Each day we make a little progress. Nothing else to report except I've been sick (I thought I was immune by now). Must have been the grapes.

Awake

I'm glad that we have the hardest recovery from jet lag while we're home. Heading west usually takes 4 days, but coming east tends to drag out a long 10 days. Ethen was up 12am to 4am, and Maya got up at 2am till ?? (it's now 7am). It's going to be a long day in church...

I used the morning to scrapbook. I've fallen a little behind. Here is a page from April 1-15.

Heading back...

So after 18 days of being in the good ole USA, we are heading out tomorrow. I think I've made my last Target run, and am trying now to stuff it all in my bags.

We had a wonderful trip this time, grateful we could see so much of our family. Living abroad is exciting and fun, but in the end, it's the family times we miss and cherish.

Soon my posts will be back to crazy life in Egypt, so here are some parting shots of the vacation:

While in Houston, Dave and I met up with a girl he baptized while on his mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was 13 then. She has recently moved to Houston to learn English and served a mission herself in Brazil.
Poor Ethen was sick for more than a week of the vacation. We hopefully have it all under control now as we prepare for another 21-hour flight.
